For this reason, the course is an outlet for both students from first-cycle degrees in Biological Sciences and Natural and Environmental Sciences who are interested in acquiring knowledge and professionalism for the proper management of natural populations and communities in a context of global change.
The programme of study includes, in the first year, the teaching of basic subjects, common to both ecology and ethology, supplemented by practical exercises: statistical analysis, geobotany, geology, paleoclimatology and ecology and ethology. In the second year, the more characterising and specialised subjects of the addresses are explored in depth. The internship and the dissertation play a very important role in the teaching process as students are guided on a path leading to the realisation of a real individual research project. The thesis seminars represent an innovative aspect of the teaching characterising this degree course. They allow the progress of the research project to be monitored, from the state of the art, through to the practical implementation of experiments in nature or in the laboratory, to the collection and critical analysis of data and their interpretation. This can also be done in research institutions outside the university (parks, museums, companies) and abroad with international exchange programmes.
Functional and Sustainable Materials is an interdisciplinary M.Sc. program in Materials Science that aims at developing a broad training in the chemistry and physics of materials with a special emphasis on their application in the circular economy.
This program was built on decades of successful collaboration between the physicists and chemists at the University of Parma in both research and education. The success of this collaboration is demonstrated by the prestigious recognition of the Department of Chemistry, Life Sciences and Environmental Sustainability with two back-to-back “Department of Excellence” awards which have support our research and education activities with state-of-the-art scientific infrastructure and scholarships to attract motivated students.
The goal of this program is to create professionals that understand the challenges of building a circular economy from its physical and chemical roots up to their application in the real world. To do so, our courses strive to constantly show in a laboratory setting the reality of the concepts shown in class. Laboratory courses will teach our students not just how to create materials but how to analyze data, design experiments, formulate hypotheses with the goal of both improve performances and create knowledge.

The Second-Cycle Degree Course in Genomic, Molecular and Industrial Biotechnologies aims to train highly qualified professionals with:
- specific multidisciplinary skills in the most advanced fields of biochemistry/molecular biology, genetics/genomics, microbiology and in particular application areas of industrial chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry;
- in-depth theoretical-practical knowledge of the most current and relevant application aspects of the national and international bio-industry.
The second-cycle degree course lasts two years and is open access, but before enrolling, students must submit an evaluation application as indicated on the Course website (https://corsi.unipr.it/it/cdlm-bgmi/modalita-di-iscrizione-e-scadenze).
The course of study in Geological sciences applied to environmental sustainability will enable you to explore topical issues in depth by following one of the three available cultural curricula focusing on (i) mitigation and management of natural hazards, (ii) fluids, georesources and applications for the environment, (iii) geodynamics and palaeoenvironment for georesources. The degree course also has an interdisciplinary connotation that enables the student to integrate the knowledge of Earth Sciences with that of Geotechnical Engineering and Ecology, broadening cultural horizons and, therefore, the ability to analyse and solve complex problems. Professionalising skills will be enhanced through a substantial investment in field activities, educational excursions, laboratory activities and internships. In fact, many of the course units are designed with the aim of teaching the 'profession' of geologist, facilitating the rapid entry of graduates into the world of work.
Industrial Chemistry uses basic chemical knowledge for the research and the development of processes aimed at obtaining products and materials of industrial interest.
The Second-cycle Degree Course in Industrial Chemistry offers training in the most topical aspects of the chemical industry, such as the study of energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable synthesis processes and the development of innovative materials for various application sectors.
The curriculum includes 14 course units (3 in English), 2 of which are free-choice, and concludes with a 6-month experimental thesis work.
The master's degree course in Sciences and technologies for environment and resources provides comprehensive and specialised training in the fields of environmental protection and remediation, sustainable spatial development and resource use, and management and evaluation aspects of environmental systems.
The degree course in Translational Biomedical Sciences (TBS) belongs to the the Chemistry, Life Sciences and Environmental Sustainability Department, selected by the MUR as a 'Department of Excellence' and supported with an outstanding five-year grant. Also for this reason, TBS is able to offer you solid and up-to-date theoretical and methodological tools to competently perform as a professional biologist.
Studying and graduating in TBS means acquiring the cultural and methodological foundations necessary to deal, with an integrated approach, with the vital processes that characterise a complex organism like humans being under normal and pathological conditions. Using an integrated approach means studying a vital function through progressively greater levels of complexity, starting with the molecular/cellular mechanisms that are the essential 'building blocks' of a function, and moving on to the organs, the systems and up to the whole organism. An organism lives, behaves, adapts to its environment, falls ill, heals and ages.
Especially from the perspective of safeguarding human health, dealing with biomedicine is a fascinating task, but also a rather complex one. Therefore, those involved in applied biology in medicine must not only draw deeply and constantly on the most modern and multidisciplinary scientific knowledge, but also develop the ability to use it critically and with a sense of responsibility.
The TBS degree course has therefore the ambitious goal of providing articulated knowledge and skills. This is a goal we try to achieve by providing students with a solid and integrated cultural background in basic biology and the various fields of applied biology, and also by trying to transfer methodological and instrumental skills to collect, analyse and interpret experimental data. Morover, we aim to help our students build the capacity to work independently, moving from initial imitator-executors to professionals, who are capable of taking responsibility and leadership and valuing teamwork.

The second-cycle degree course in "Business Administration" aims to train a professional profile with comprehension skills in the areas as specified below:
- methodologies, knowledge and skills required for positions of responsibility in the administration and governance of companies;
- quantitative and economic knowledge as investigative tools for research activities applied to the complex of company choices;
- various accounting models adopted at national and international level;
- advanced studies on production companies, with particular reference to the main forms of company aggregation;

The training path therefore focuses on the subjects of the economic-business subject area.
The Second-cycle Degree Course (LM) in Economics and Management of Sustainable Food Environment (Food Quality-FQ), promoted by the Department of Economics and Management in collaboration with the Department of Food and Drug of the University of Parma, is a multidisciplinary project that was set up as a collaborative platform to promote dialogue between economic-managerial culture and the disciplines related to the social sciences of gastronomy.
The Course aims to train professionals with interdisciplinary skills that combine theoretical and empirical knowledge of a cultural, as well as economic-managerial nature of the agri-food system, with technological and gastronomic skills related to the enhancement of food in a strict logic of environmental sustainability. This is a continuation of the cultural pathway already started in the First-cycle degree L-18 (Food System: Sustainability, Management and Technology) and L-26 (Gastronomic Sciences) at the University of Parma.
The training pathway focuses on subjects from different subject areas that include: the disciplines of an economic-business, sociological and commodity nature, in order to understand and be able to apply economic theories and forms of management of agri-food enterprises in the procurement, production, processing, marketing and promotion phases of food production and environmental systems.

The Second-cycle degree course in Finance and Risk Management (FRIM) aims to train experts in the management of financial products and portfolios, in the analysis and management of banking and financial risks and, more generally, of economic business risks, in the management of financial institutions, and in the analysis and management of insurance risks.
The Second-cycle degree graduate in Finance and Risk Management (FRIM):
- he/she acquires in-depth knowledge of the tools of mathematical calculation applied to the economics of financial products and markets, finance and insurance, as well as specialised knowledge of the business models of risk analysis of banking, financial and insurance operators; this is complemented by statistical skills that enable him/her to process data and make estimates of economic relationships.
- acquires knowledge and comprehension skills to apply these methodologies and tools to the field of finance, in terms of analysis of international scenarios, implementation of decision-making models in financial markets and in corporate governance, analysis and development of management processes typical of the various categories of financial intermediaries;
- develops an adequate autonomy of judgement with regard to problems of corporate financial management and risk management and to the modelling of financial market trends, being able to effectively interpret and process the information and data acquired
- develops the ability to communicate, both in a business context and to a non-specialist audience, information on financial market trends, on the use of alternative financial instruments and on banking and insurance risk management;

International Business and Development (IBD) is a second cycle degree in economics and business (LM77-Management), taught and examined entirely in English, offered by the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Parma.
It is a two-year course and on successful completion graduates are awarded the “laurea magistrale” or second cycle degree certificate.
IBD is designed for candidates from different academic backgrounds and aims to provide a thorough grounding in international economics and global development.
IBD students are encouraged to gain experience abroad during the two academic years, and can take advantage of a large number of opportunities.
IBD teaching methods are mainly interactive and require student participation. Almost all courses include project work, where groups of students, assisted by the teaching staff, prepare, present and discuss projects with Professors/instructors and peers.

Marketing activity has increasingly taken on a dual configuration: that of Consumer Marketing and that of Trade Marketing. The first refers to marketing strategies oriented towards the final demand (consumer), while the second refers to marketing strategies oriented towards the intermediate demand (commercial distribution).
With this in mind, the Second-cycle degree course in 'Trade and Consumer Marketing' (TRADE) was created in 2005 to train specific skills for the management of companies' market policies. TRADE has become the first Second-cycle degree in Italy in terms of specialised coverage of the different aspects of marketing, with a range of 11 marketing classes, numerous workshops and free lectures dedicated to frontier aspects of marketing. In order to communicate this variety of content to Italian students, the degree course has abandoned its old name of 'Trade Marketing and Commercial Strategies' and is now called 'Trade and Consumer Marketing'. For everyone, it remains and will always be 'TRADE'.
The two-year course has a strong design focus on environmental, social and economic sustainability in the disciplines of architectural design, urban, spatial and landscape planning and architectural restoration. To emphasise its vocation for internationality, the course has promoted several educational and scientific cooperation agreements with foreign universities and is also fully offered in English.

The degree course in Computer Engineering, with curricula in Artificial Intelligence, Automation, and Information Technologies and Systems, guarantees a level of qualification and preparation that is appreciated by companies.
Teaching combines theory and practice, with tutorial sessions in the information technology and automation research laboratories of the Department of Engineering and Architecture and the possibility of conducting research dissertations in collaboration with leading companies operating in these sectors.
The second-cycle degree course in Electric Vehicle Engineering is established within the LM-28 class in Electrical Engineering; it is strongly oriented towards the training of a professional profile with expertise in the development and integration of the main electrical components that make up motor and motorcycle vehicles, with specific reference to the premium-end and motorsport markets, and towards the development and management of the related technological and production processes. The course, with a strong experimental content, trains highly specialised graduates in the various fields of electronics, with a solid methodological basis in the entire field of ICT.
Graduates are able to embrace and promote technological innovation in the design and production of electronic circuits, sensors and systems, in process automation and throughout the manufacturing industry, from automotive to biomedical, in energy production and distribution, and in public administration and services.
The Inter-University Master's Degree in Electronic Engineering for Intelligent Vehicles (EEIV) of the Motorvehicle University of Emilia Romagna (MUNER) is aimed at training engineers who will drive the application of ICT technologies to new-generation vehicles.
The course, entirely taught in English and designed in synergy with the industrial partners of the MUNER consortium, offers the choice between two curricula: Electronic and Communication Systems and Autonomous Driving Engineering.

Growing issues related to environmental and land protection and management require interdisciplinary and transversal skills. The environmental engineer is familiar with problems related to sustainability, the consumption of natural resources, and the relationship between human actions and the environment. He/she carries out design and construction activities for the mitigation of anthropogenic impacts on the environment, prevention and protection of the territory from natural phenomena.
The second-cycle degree course in Advanced Automotive Engineering is an international inter-university course with its administrative hub at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. It is run jointly by the Universities of Bologna, Ferrara and Parma and is supported by the most prestigious companies operating in the automotive sector in the Emilia-Romagna region.
The course’s objective is to provide knowledge and skills in the design of high-performance and competition motor and motorcycles vehicles. The main features of the course are:
- lecturers are chosen amongst university professors and Italian and foreign professional experts, to guarantee the highest quality of teaching; they are selected by an inter-university Coordination Committee, open for participation to the partner companies.

It's possible through a regional course, fully taught in English, offered by a network formed by Universities of Parma, Bologna, Cattolica of Piacenza, Modena and Reggio Emilia, Ferrara. Emilia-Romagna region and, in particular, the Parma District represent an integrated ecosystem of food industries, research centres and public institutions fully dedicated to food (for this reason it's called 'food valley') and is the headquarter of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). The inter-university, international second cycle degree course in Food Sciences for Innovation and Authenticity, set up collectively by the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano (administrative hub) and the Universities of Udine and Parma and awarding a joint degree.
The course is structured in different profiles, each defined by specific teachings, included in the third semester, which will be taught at the partner universities or at the University College Cork, Ireland, School of Food & Nutritional Sciences, and at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. The Course is part of a broader project, Food For Future, for which the Department of Law, Politics and International Studies has been awarded the title of Department of Excellence for the five-year term 2023-2027 (https://www.foodforfuture.unipr.it/en/home )
A Course that has a marked multidisciplinary connotation, capable of enhancing the knowledge and understanding gained by students during the three-year period, allowing them to elaborate and apply it in an original and interdisciplinary form. A course that combines frontal lectures with activities of a laboratory nature and that is characterized by a great attention to the student, as demonstrated by the satisfaction declared by those enrolled in relation to the teaching activities. In order to create an additional opportunity for language learning six compulsory courses are delivered in English. Graduates will be able to direct themselves to multiple employment outlets, with particular reference to careers in international organizations.
The course includes theoretical-practical didactic experiments and maintains fruitful relationships with local agencies and institutions, with the aim of fostering encounters between students and the contexts of social service and programming. Particular attention is paid to orientation to the profession (with reflection meetings on social work and the evolution of the professional role of the social worker and, specifically, of the social programmer, and with field research actions within institutional and third sector structures aimed at the realization of experimental theses).
The Second-cycle Degree Course in Computer Science has a duration of 2 years divided into 4 semesters and includes courses with a total number of 120 ECTS credits (University Educational Credits).
It is open access.
It therefore does not provide for an admission test.
The Second-cycle degree course in Computer Science allows specialisation in current technical and professional skills that are particularly attractive in the world of work, in the ICT and applications sectors. Particular emphasis is placed on the areas of Artificial Intelligence (Automatic Reasoning) and Reliable and Secure Software.
The course of study provides a single pathway (curricula) that includes a large proportion of IT-specific teaching. There are also 12 ECTS credits free-choice courses.
At the end of the course of study, there is an internship and a final examination.
The second-cycle degree course in Mathematics has no entrance test.
The second-cycle degree course in Mathematics is aimed at all students interested in Mathematics and its applications, and aims both to provide excellent general knowledge of the mathematical disciplines and a very high and specialised scientific qualification, which can be directed towards fundamental research, popularization, teaching, or the use of mathematical models and modern calculation tools.
The course outline provides for two programmes of study: Teaching Programme (for students interested in teaching Mathematics) and General Programme.
The Second-cycle Degree Course in Physics provides students with a path along the main research fields in Physics: the area covered are the Physics of Fundamental Interactions, Statistical Physics, Physics of Condensed Matter and Biophysics, ther theoretical cornerstones and the most advanced experimental and ICT-assisted techniques.
In the educational path of this degree course, students can choose among several courses. This allows for significant flexibility of educational pathways towards the students’ cultural needs, and it encourages a deep knowledge of advanced research themes, balancing theory and experimental techniques. Choice-based teaching is divided into three pathways: Theoretical Physics, Biophysics and Soft Matter Physics, Physics of Matter and Functional Materials.
Theses can be carried out either in the University of Parma facilities or in private companies or affiliated facilities. In this case, an internship will be activated, which is also an important training and orientation experience, to bring the students closer to the world of work.
The course aims to train a graduate who can enter the labour market with an original curriculum and already oriented in terms of professional skills. In fact, the course offers students several curricula, identified on the basis of the area's peculiarities and employment needs: "Biotechnology for prevention and therapy', 'Biotechnology applied to animal production and food safety' and 'Biotechnology applied to regenerative and restorative medicine.

In addition, the student will have the opportunity to study with some of the best psychobiologists and cognitive neuroscientists in our country and to acquire theoretical and methodological tools that will enable him or her to work as a psychologist with a solid scientific basis. In Parma you can learn about general and physiological psychology, developmental psychology, neuropsychology, elements of psychiatry and psychopharmacology, applied statistics, behavioural biology, ethology and cognitive neuroscience.
If the world of sport, exercise and general human health is your passion, this is the course for you.
You will be able to combine university knowledge with expertise and experience from the world of sport thanks to the collaboration with the National Olympic Committees (CONI, CIP), National Sports Federations and the University Sports Centre of Parma (CUS).
Theoretical/practical on-site courses and internship activities to be carried out at external, national and/or international facilities, consistent with the educational aims of the degree course, are foreseen.
The training course aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage, organise and conduct motor activities aimed at the general population, with or without congenital and/or acquired pathologies, and at athletes of all age groups.
The course has a strong and growing attractiveness due to the educational value of the theoretical lectures characterised by a multidisciplinary vocation in the following fields of interest: area of management, area of research, area of training and didactics and advanced clinical area (nursing/obstetric clinical leadership experience).
At the same time, great importance is attached to internship experiences, as positively noted by the evaluations of students and graduates; in fact, internship experiences in line with the course's priority directions and organised on a 1:1 basis with senior figures of the specific professional profile are envisaged.
Throughout the course, it is possible to avail of the constant support of a tutor who will follow each student from matriculation to graduation.
Attendance at theoretical classes is compulsory for 50% of each block (or integrated course) in order to allow working students to enter.
The university provides annual scholarships for students who wish to try their hand at student tutoring.
The Second-Cycle Degree Course in Innovative and Sustainable Livestock Production (degree class LM-86) addresses the need to create professional figures with advanced technical-scientific skills in the agro-zootechnical sector. In particular, the training course focuses on improving the (environmental, economic and social) sustainability of production chains - with particular reference to dairy and meat production - and the protection of biodiversity and the welfare of farm animals. The course lasts two years and there is no access limit. Access is direct in the case of possession of an L-26 or L-38 degree or, in the case of possession of a degree in other classes, subject to possession of 40 ECTS credits in one or more of the following academic disciplines (AGR/01 - AGR/17 - AGR/18 - AGR/19 - VET/01 - VET/02 - VET/04 - VET/05 - VET/07 - VET/08 - VET/10).
