Course unit content
Professional training “TIROCINIO” is organized for the 5th year of the course from February to December and it is repeated six times to divide students in small groups. TIROCINIO lasts 24 weeks, four weeks for each shift during which the student acquires and completes “day-one skills".
TIROCINIO is related to clinical (4 paths) and non-clinical (2 paths) veterinary education.
For clinical path the student acquires competencies in:
• Internal Medicine
• Surgery, Anaesthesia and Diagnostic Imaging
• Obstetrics and animal reproduction
• Patology, Infectious Diseases, Parasitology
• Food hygiene
• Animal production.
Clinical practice is carried out from Moday to Sunday; non clinical professional training is carried out from Monday to Friday.
Student’s basic “day one skills” are certified in a booklet named “Portfolio” (Annex 4.2). Portfolio provides the practical activities acquired by the student during the first year of course, while veterinarian practices are done during the last two years of course.
Practical hands-on training is performed under the supervision professor and certified by the coordinator of the different paths. Only completing the portfolio the student has access to further activities to achieve the degree and to pass the examination to practice as veterinarian
Training includes work on large and small, diseased or healthy animals for clinical teaching aims. Cadavers or isolated organs are used for necropsy and clinical-pathology investigation (sample collections, fine-needle aspiration, etc).
Clinical rotation is an obligatory, full time, intramural and extramural, student standard practice.
The students actively participate in the clinical visits that are daily carried out in the University Veterinary Hospital, both in the medical history collection and in the collection of biological materials used for laboratory investigations, contributing to the clinical diagnosis. They also actively follow the clinical path of hospitalized patients, compiling medical records and administering therapies.

We don't choose any test book, since it be matter of a practical activity in various veterinary sectors.
Teaching methods
The student learns the manuality and the decisional activity by the collaboration with the teachers and the suggestion of the tutors. The practice is based on the resolution of the practical cases that occur in different training areas. The student uses all the instruments of the university and esternal structures (as Vet Hospital, Vet clinics, Vet labs, food farms and factories, ecc). Consequentely, the student learn all the techniques and the technologies connected to the clinical and no-clinical scheduled practices and recorded in the portfolio.
