Integrated course unit module: TRAINING

Learning objectives

The students must acquire knowledge and understanding on how to perform a correct clinical examination: general and particular semeiologic examination. They should be able to understand the acquired data, applying knowledge and understanding, showing professional skills and being able to make judgements. Students must show communication and learning skills.
The student must be able to perform a correct radiographic examination (correct positioning of the patient, correct setting of exposure values –kV/mAs, radiographic image acquisition). The student must be aware of the radioprotection principles, and demonstrate professional skill in discussing radiographic, ultrasonographic annd CT cases.
Students are requested to spend a period of time outdoors in equine clinical centre and in the unit of critical care/intensive therapy unit. Students must show, again, communication and learning skills.

Prerequisites

Anatomy, physiology, general pathology, surgical pathology, clinical surgery, diagnostic imaging knowledge

Course unit content

Clinical examination of small and large animal: general and particular semeiologic examination.
The students are directly involved radiographic examinations (correct positioning of the patient, correct setting of exposure values –kV/mAs, radiographic image acquisition). The student must be aware of the radioprotection principles, and demonstrate professional skill in discussing radiographic, ultrasonographic annd CT cases.
Students are involved in surgical procedures of small and large animals.
Students are requested to spend a period of time outdoors in equine clinical centre and in the unit of critical care/intensive therapy unit.

Teaching methods

Didattica pratica in piccoli gruppi (2-4 studenti)

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral/practical examination: students will be asked to demonstrate that they have reached a good level of knowledge and understanding regarding the clinical cases studied. They are requested to discuss topics on surgical pathology, clinical surgery and diagnostic imaging (radiology, ultrasonography, CT). They will be requested to apply their knowledge and understanding.
Students must be able to apply their knowledge and comprehension capacities, showing a professional approach to their work. They should have adequate skills in discussion of their ideas and in problems' solving. Students must be able to collect and discuss data, in order to develop their own independent judgements.
