Learning objectives
The student at the end of the course, using the knowledge of anatomy, biology, physiology, pharmacology and general pathology previously acquired will have to demonstrate knowledge and understanding about:
- The correct procedures to induce anesthesia, the classification of anesthetic risk and assessment of evidence vital.
- The most frequent complications that can meet the patient during anesthesia and awakening
The student also applying the knowledge and understanding acquired, shall be able, even collaborating with other professionals, to
- Contribute to the prevention of complications that can meet the patient undergoing a anesthetic regimen
- Identify the problems associated with anesthesia to which the patient may be suffering
- Prepare an appropriate care plan
Prerequisites
Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology and Pathology and Surgical
Course unit content
The first exercises relate to the illustration and operation of the equipment and facilities necessary to produce an episode anesthetic and the 'approach to the patient before anesthesia, anesthetic risk classification, descriptions of the phases of anesthesia and drugs and equipment used.
The second part of the course is given to the illustration of anesthetic procedures in the various animal species as regards both the local and general anesthesia.
The third part of the course deals with the complications of revival and resuscitation procedures.

Teaching methods
During training it will be discussed the general problems associated with the enforcement of an anesthetic protocol.
The course will be accompanied by practical exercises with animals. The exercises will be individual and practices in order to provide the opportunity for each student to be able to measure in the design of stand-alone solutions to the real problems that will be made.
These activities will be planned in such a way that within each exercise, the student can achieve practically the solutions of the problems outlined during theoretical lessons.
Assessment methods and criteria
The assessment of the achievement of the objectives of the course consists of a written and oral exam. Through questions about the contents of the course will be determined whether the student has achieved the goal of knowledge and understanding of the content. Through questions regarding prevention strategies and preparation of a care plan will be determined whether the student has achieved the aim of applying the acquired knowledge.
