Learning objectives

The aim of the course is the acquisition of solid linguistic competence in the Serbo-Croatian language spoken at A1 level. At the end of the course the student - will develop a basic knowledge and understanding of the Serbo-Croatian language - will be able to communicate in the context of daily communication at A1 level in contexts, mostly related to presentation and basic communication activities.

Course unit content

Introduction to the Serbian language and serbocroatian History and Culture. Grammar. Cyrillic alphabet: sounds: vowels and consonants. . Nouns: serbian nouns; building the plural; 7 cases. Types of declension. Adjectives and Adverbs. Verbs: Infinitive; Present tense: biti (to be); Past tense: biti; Present perfect. Pronouns: Personal pronouns; pPossessive pronouns. Demonstrative pronouns; Interrogative pronouns. Syntax: basic structure of the sentence. Word order & Sentences. Negation. Numbers and days of the week.

Teaching methods

The course will take place through lectures and practical classroom exercises.

Assessment methods and criteria

The test provides an assessment with final exams written and oral. For the oral exam, the student must be able to read, translate and summarize what has been read in class during the year and the texts read at home. He must be able to hold a basic conversation on the topics covered in class. In addition, the student will be able to read and translate at first sight a basic serbian text.
