Internships

The University of Parma promotes curricular internships in order to facilitate professional choices through direct knowledge of the world of work and the realisation of moments of alternation between study and work.
The curricular internship integrates and completes the student's training pathway through the performance of practical activities which, in accordance with the provisions of the Degree course Regulations of their course of study, may be carried out in facilities within the University or externally at qualified public and private organisations with which the University has entered into appropriate agreements.
The internship involves three subjects: the student, the promoter (the University of Parma) and the host (company or organisation) where the activity is carried out under the guidance of a university tutor, a University professor and a company tutor.
The curricular internship does not constitute a prerequisite for an employment relationship between the intern and the host structure, nor can it be a substitute for company labour or professional services.

Traineeships and internships

The internship (150 hours, 6 ECTS credits) takes place in the third year in a public (schools of all levels, municipal or regional offices, libraries, tourist boards, chambers of commerce) or private institution (foreign offices of companies or banks, language schools, translation and interpreting agencies, voluntary and cooperative associations, hotel receptions, tourist villages, cultural associations, publishing company, etc.)

The internship can also be performed inside the university facilities. When compiling the programme of study, the student must pay particular attention to the type of internship he or she intends to carry out, indicating whether it is an external or internal internship. It is also important that the internship activity is relevant to the student's curriculum (language and/or literature).

Activating Traineeships

Internships are activated exclusively online via the ESSE3 application, which is accessed by students, host institutions and academic tutors.

All information concerning the activation and management of internships can be found at the following link: https://www.unipr.it/tirocini-curriculari-online

Activation of External internship

1. Choice of host organisation
The student may apply to the opportunities already present on ESSE3 or may independently choose an organisation or company to enter the Training Project on the platform. In this first phase, it is essential that the student contacts the academic tutor and proposes a draft of the training project, which the tutor may approve or modify by suggesting possible corrections.

2. Choice of academic tutor and confirmation of the training project by the student
Academic tutor: depending on the initial of his or her surname, the student will choose the academic tutor who will follow him or her during the internship according to the scheme below:

3. Start of internship
After the U. O. Internships and the academic tutor will have approved the internship on ESSE3, the student will be able to start his or her activity and record the hours completed on the appropriate form (Form A, 'attendance sheet' see attached file)

4. During the internship
Halfway through the internship, the student will contact his or her academic tutor again to inform him or her of the progress of the placement and to point out any problems that need attention.

5. End of internship
At the end of the internship, the student and the company mentor complete the evaluation questionnaire on ESSE3. The student must also upload on the platform the attendance sheets signed only by the company tutor, not by the academic tutor. (Form A, 'attendance sheet' see attached file) and the internship report (Form B, 'final report writing' see attached file). After verifying that the student has uploaded all the required documents, the academic tutor approves the activity. The 6 ECTS credits will be uploaded to the student's career by the relevant offices.

Activation of internal internship

If the student opts for an internship offered by a structure within the University, he/she must contact the Course Internship Contact Person, who will upload the dossier in ESSE3. To this end, the student must send the following data by e-mail:

  • registration number
  • precise start and end date of the internship
  • location of the internship
  • name of the University Company Contact Person
  • Training project approved by the academic tutor.

The student will identify an academic tutor in the same way as for the external internship. Once the internship contact person has started the internal internship procedure, the student will be able to choose his or her academic tutor on ESSE3 and the procedure will be the same as for the external internship.

Recognition of activities already carried out

It is possible to have activities already carried out by students recognised as external internships. However, certain conditions must be met:

1. - performance of the internship during the years of enrolment at the University of Parma
2. - content consistent with the curriculum
3. - be in possession of appropriate documentation issued by the host entity containing the following data:
        - start and end date of the internship
        - total number of hours of the internship
        - detailed and precise description of the activities carried out
        - evaluation by the host organisation of the activity carried out

If in possession of this documentation, the student will contact the Curricular Internship Coordinator, Prof. Elena Pessini, to submit the application for recognition, which will then be assessed by the Course President, Prof. Gioia Angeletti.
