Learning objectives
The students must acquire knowledge and understanding about surgical semeiotic: general and particular semeiologic examination of osteo-articular and muscle , tendon-ligament apparatus, respiratory, digestive and urinary apparatus; surgical equipment, surgical techniques, local and general anesthesia -anesthetic protocols
They should be able to understand the acquired data, applying knowledge and understanding, showing professional skills and being able to make judgements. Students must show communication and learning skills.
Prerequisites
anatomy, physiology, surgical pathology, diagnostic imaging
Course unit content
General and particular semeiologic examination.
Classification of lameness, diseases causing lameness.
Semeiologic examination of the respiratory/digestive, urinary system. Surgical equipment, surgical techniques, local and general anesthesia -anestethic protocol
Full programme
The course includes the dissertation on the main surgical diseases of compation and food producing animals; surgical propaedeutics, mainly on companion animals; anaesthesiology techniques and anaesthesia machines. For details see the syllabus of the referring modules.

Assessment methods and criteria
written/oral examination: students will be asked to demonstrate that they have reached a good level of knowledge and understanding. Students must be able to apply their knowledge and comprehension capacities, showing a professional approach to their work. They should have adequate skills in discussion of their ideas and in problems' solving. Students must be able to collect and discuss data, in order to develop their own independent judgements.
