Learning objectives
Students will have to reach a good level of knowledge and understanding regarding the different imaging techniques discussed, the student itself will have to apply knowledge and understanding in giving indication on which is/are the best imaging technique/s to be considered for different clinical cases. In the practical x-ray film reading session, students are requested to reach a good level of knowledge and understanding of the radiological signs that should be considered in x-ray film reading of different anatomical regions. In this way, students will have to apply their knowledge and understanding for the correct evaluation of the radiological signs, in order to reach a correct diagnosis. Students will have to reach a good level of knowledge and understanding about the ethiopathogenesis and physiopathology of the discussed surgical pathologies; they will have to be able to apply their knowledge and understanding in performing a good clinical approach in the discussion of clinical cases.
Prerequisites
Anatomy, physiology, general pathology knowledge
Course unit content
General topics will be discussed: ionizing radiation, x-ray unit, radiographic images: analogic and digital acquisition system, radioprotection, radiographic projection in small and large animal, ultrasonography, basic principle of CT, RMN, Scintigraphy. Indications for a correct approach in x-ray films reading and CT cases’ interpretation will be given for thorax/abdomen and skeletal system. Students are involved in small groups in practical session of ultrasonography, x-ray film reading session, discussion of CT cases, and practical session with the digital system. Topics of surgical pathology of different anatomical systems will be also discussed.
