Learning objectives
D1 - Knowledge and understanding
The student must demonstrate knowledge of: the organization, tasks and functions of the National Health System; veterinary information systems; the current national and EU regulation related to infectious diseases of animals on the basis of their current categorization, identification and traceability of animals, registration and approval of establishments and transporters.
D2 - Applying knowledge and understanding
At the end of the training activity, the student will have to demonstrate a good command in examining the surveillance and control protocols of the listed infectious diseases, the traceability of kept animals and the surveillance rules for wild animals, indicating the national and Eu Regulations references and the most used information systems. The student will also have to identify the competences of the bodies in charge within the NHS, the Regional territories and the European Community.
D3 - Making judgements
The student must be able to identify and interpret the Regulations relating to infectious diseases of animals and identify the related figures and operating bodies within the NHS and the European Community.
D4 - Communication
At the end of the training activity, the student must demonstrate to be able to express himself with good lexicon properties in relation to the current National and Eu Regulation issues on infectious animal diseases, on animal traceability and identification systems.
D5 - Lifelong learning skills
At the end of the training activity, the student must be able to find and learn autonomously the National and EU updated regulations relating to infectious animal diseases, to the identification and traceability systems of animals and establishments, and to propose prevention and control measures based on national and EU regulations in force.

Course unit content
The course aims to allow the student to know the basics of Veterinary Public Health and the regulatory aspects in force on the European Community and National territory regarding the surveillance of infectious animal diseases, the management of outbreaks of infectious animal diseases and the movements of animals within and outside the EU.
In particular, the following aspects will be addressed:
Veterinary Public Health: Organization and functions of the NHS. Executive bodies of the SSN. Peripheral offices (UVAC and PCF), Superior Health Council, ISS, Experimental Zooprophylactic Institutes, NAS, Carabinieri Command for Agri-Food Protection.
Functions of the Regions in veterinary public health. Competences of ASLs in veterinary public health. District and departmental organization of Veterinary Services, SSPV, Areas of Veterinary Services. PMP and ARPA.
Animal health standards for animals and germinal products at European Community, National and Regional level. Prevention and control of animal diseases transmissible to animals or humans in the European Community, National and Regional territories. Regulation of European parliament n. 2016/429. Management of epidemic emergencies. Prioritization and classification of animal diseases of concern at Union level. Early identification, notification and communication of diseases, surveillance, eradication programs and disease-free status in the European Community and National territories. Registration and approval of establishments and transporters, movements and traceability of animals, germinal products and products of animal origin in the Union. Assessment methods and criteria
The assessment of the achievement of the objectives set by the teaching involves a single exam with the teaching module of Infectious Diseases I.
The exam includes an oral test, where the student must answer 3 questions, addressing the aspects:
1 question regarding: structure and functions of the National Health System
1 question regarding: new National and EU Regulations
1 question relating to: Veterinary Public Health, Information Systems, International and Community Bodies of Public and Veterinary Health, Surveillance and management of outbreaks of infectious animal diseases.
The aim of the exam is to ascertain whether the student has achieved the objective of knowledge, understanding of the contents, the ability to apply the knowledge acquired, to know how to communicate it adequately and to know how to use it extensively independently.
The result of the exam is associated with the global evaluation of the answers given by the student. The final grade, the result of the average of the three assessments, is expressed out of thirty.
Students diagnosed with specific learning disabilities (DSA), certified in accordance with law n° 170/2010 will be granted the concessions provided for by law.
