Learning objectives
Students should learn the notions needed to perform a general and organ-specific examination of the animal, finding all the differential diagnoses and deciding diagnostic tests to perform and appropriate therapy to undertake. They should be able to make connections with other disciplines (anatomy, physiology, internal medicine, diagnostic imaging), in order to reach the final diagnosis. They should be able to use appropriate scientific language to communicate with colleagues without misunderstandings, and they should know the indications and how to perform the main small animal soft tissue surgeries, as well as potential complications encountered.
In the practical part of the course students will acquire confidence with the surgical/sterile environment, they will perform simple soft tissue surgical procedures and they will learn how to approach small and large animals safely.

Course unit content
Semiotics and clinics of the main surgical diseases of companion animals digestive, respiratory, urinary, integumentary, visual, endocrine systems. Main diseases of the digestive and muskulo-skeletal system inhorses and digestiv systme in cows.

Teaching methods
theoretica lectures/practical sessions. Due to COVID-19 pandemic the lectures will be held online.
Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination: students will be asked to demonstrate that they have reached a good level of knowledge and understanding. Students should be able to apply their knowledge and comprehension skills, showing a professional approach to their work. They should have adequate skills in discussion of their ideas and in problem solving. Students should be able to collect and manage data, in order to develop their own independent judgements, neede to solve the clinical cases presented during the examination.
