Learning objectives
The course aims to provide useful methodologies for the study of film history. The main goal is to help the students in improving their abilities for the comprehension and the analysis of movies, applying their knowledge and refining their communicative skills.

Course unit content
The course is divided in two part (part A and part B), respectively focused on an introduction to film history and on Italian neorealism.
The part A will focus on these topics:

2. Early Cinema
3. Classical Cinema
4. Cinema and Authorship
5. Modernity and Post-Modernity
6. The new frontiers of the moving image
The part B will cope with these topics:
1. Italian cinema during fascism
2. The debate on realism
3. Dawn of neorealism
4. Cultural and political implication of a cinematic movement
5. Authors and themes
6. The debate on neorealism
7. The impact of neorealism on world cinemas
8. Theories of neorealism
9. Does neorealism still exist?

Teaching methods
During the lectures the contents of the course will be deeply discussed and some movies will be presented and projected. The lectures will be planned to promote an interaction with the students and a confrontation on the main topics.
The course will be also offered in a blended way on the distance learning platform called Elly.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final exam will be oral. Students’ ability in understanding and learning, and their communicative skills will be tested during the exam and their evaluation will refer to the quality of these standards.
