Learning objectives

At the end of the training the student will be able to:
1) a. know the radiographic anatomy of the main thoracic and abdominal organs in small animals; b. know the ecoghraphic anatomy of the main abdominal organs in small animals and superficial tendons in horses; c. know the main practical applications of interventional ultrasound
2) a. identify radiographic signs and the main abnormalities of the radiographic anatomy of thoracic and abdominal organs in small animals; b. identify the main ultrasound abnormalities of the abdominal organs in small animals
3) a. make a judgment on radiographic abnormalities of thoracic and abdominal organs in small animals; b. make a judgment on the ultrasonographic abnormalities of abdominal organs in small animals
4) report with a proper terminology the radiographic and ultrasonographic abnormalities
5) suggest further diagnostic tools if needed

Course unit content

- Evaluation of the radiographic anatomy of the thorax and abdomen of small animals
- film reading sessions on radiographic examination, CT examination and ultrasound examination of small and large animals
- preparing and performing abdominal ultrasound in small animals along with organ identification
- preparing and performing tendon ultrasound in the horse
- practical approach to interventional ultrasound
