Learning objectives

D1 - KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
At the end of the training activity the student will be able to:
1. Know and understand the methods of clinical and instrumental diagnosis of the main internistic medical problems of small and large animals
D2 - CAPACITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
At the end of the training activity the student will be able to:
1. Perform a clinical examination and complete a clinical record
2. Perform and interpret an electrocardiographic examination
3. Perform a cardiological, neurological, dermatological examination
4. To manage, in collaboration with other professionals, a case of internal medicine
D3 - MAKING JUDGEMENTS
At the end of the training activity the student will be able to:
1. Evaluate and critically choose the most appropriate instrumental and laboratory diagnostic tool to formulate diagnosis and prognosis
D4 - COMMUNICATION SKILLS
At the end of the training activity the student will be able to:
1. Communicate clearly and with appropriate terms a clinical case
2. Relate correctly to the patient, the animal owner, and the work colleagues

At the end of the training activity the student will be able to:
1. Consult and understand scientific texts
2. Make bibliographic research autonomously
3. Have a mastery of clinical disciplines that will stimulate continuing education

Course unit content

Practical application of topics of lectures and in-depth seminars.

Full programme

Physical examination: inspection, palpation, percussion, auscultation.
Sampling of biologic fluids.
Scheme for a physical examination. History and the approach to the client and patient. Identification of the patient.
Present status: general impression and Objective Examination. Skeleton and constitution, nutritional conditions, level of consciousness and behaviour, locomation, coat and subcutaneous tissue, mucosae, lymphnodes; temperature.
Respiratory system.
Circulatory system.
Digestive tract.
Kidney and urinary tract.
Skin, hair and nails.
Nervous system.
Endocrine glands.
Interpretation of laboratory assays results.

The didactic activities consist of practical training with small groups of students.

Assessment methods and criteria

The topics covered in practical tutorials are an integral part of the contents of the course of Medical Pathology - Medical Semeiotics and as such are subject to verification during the oral examination described in the relevant sections of the course of Medical and Semeiotic Medical Pathology.
