Learning objectives

1 - Knowledge and ability to understand: take a look at some production facilities for the main zootechnical species, trying to understand the motivations of managerial choices made by breeders and / or veterinarians;2 - Knowledge and understanding skills applied: on the basis of the knowledge acquired in the basic courses, it will be evaluated, during the educational visits, how they are applied in the reality of breeding;3 - Autonomy of judgment: the student will be stimulated, through the discussion of the situations encountered in the facilities, to make autonomous and motivated choices, based on his knowledge;4 - Communication skills: the student will be stimulated to discuss the situations encountered, thus making him acquire correct communication skills; moreover, since the exam is written, the student must demonstrate to be able to communicate what has been learned during the educational visits;5 - Ability to learn: the provision of the course must become a wealth of knowledge for the student, not only aimed at the exam, but above all at the profession.

Course unit content

The course is of a practical nature and consists of educational visits, generally lasting one day, at meat and milk cattle, pig or poultry farms. During visits, a particular attention will be paid to 1) aspects of animal management, with particular reference to the satisfaction of welfare needs, 2) to the evaluation of rations and the choice of feeds, 3) to the evaluation of the main economic parameters of breeding.

Visits at commercial dairy farms, beef farms, pigs or poultry farms.

Visits to livestock farms of the main species (cattle, pigs, poultry), under the supervision of the teacher

Assessment methods and criteria

The verification of learning outcomes related to knowledge, comprehension and application will take place through a written exam at the end of the course, lasting one hour, including n. 11 questions (the student must answer to 10, discarding one of his choice, each answer is worth 3 points) related to the topics addressed during the course visits. For students diagnosed with specific learning disorders (DSA), certified according to the law 170/2010, specific support modalities are provided.
