Learning objectives

The course is aimed at teaching the students to make a diagnosis, to acquire the main surgical techniques and to provide them a knowledge and understanding of the basics of etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of major surgical pathologies. The student will also learn to apply the acquired knowledge and understanding in identifying and solving the problems of animals suffering from surgical general pathology and prepare an appropriate care plan.

Course unit content

The lectures cover topics of semiotics from containment to the definition of a diagnosis, the treatment of the guiding principles of operative medicine in relation to the management of the operating room and operators, the materials used and the various techniques in hard and soft tissues, the use of medicines, equipment and the development of anesthesia protocols in various animal species.

Assessment methods and criteria

The achievement of the objectives of the course is assessed through a written multiple choice examination and an oral exam. Through questions about the contents of the course it will be determined whether the student has achieved the goal of knowledge and understanding of the contents.
