Requirements and access conditions

Access to the degree course in Food Science and Technology (Class L-26) is subject to possession of an upper secondary school diploma or other equivalent qualification obtained abroad.
For the a.y. 2024/2025, admission to the degree course is subject to a local quota system for a maximum of 133 students, of which 5 places are reserved for non-EU students.
Information on how to enroll will be available on the Manifesto degli studi 2024-2025, which will be published on May 2024.
Admission will take place on the basis of an algorithm devised by the University, which combines the priority acquired on the basis of the chronological order of completion of online enrolment procedures with a merit rating based on the high school finl grade.
The programmed number is made necessary by the intense laboratory activity, which has been in place since the first year of the course and is aimed at guaranteeing access to the greatest number of students, while at the same time ensuring quality teaching, offering each student laboratory space, equipment and materials, as well as technical assistance and teaching appropriate to the objectives of the course of study.

Assessment of preparation

At the beginning of the first year, the Course Council verifies the knowledge of the enrolled students. Following this verification, any gaps in training will be identified and the resulting remedial activities will be identified through support and tutoring.
For this purpose, students have to take an assessment test at the beginning of class. The test is designed to ascertain the level of knowledge in basic science subjects such as mathematics, biology and general chemistry. Possession of such knowledge is in fact considered a minimum condition for taking the examinations.
The test will be administered online and students will have a maximum of 60 min to answer the questions. Students will have to pass a threshold level of correct answers, below which Additional Formative Obligations (OFAs) will be assigned. An OFA is considered to have been fulfilled when the student has repeated and passed the assessment test. If the OFA is not fulfilled, the student may not sit any examinations

Enrolment in single course units

It is possible to enroll in single teaching courses and for a maximum number of 30 ECTS without prejudice to the possibility of increasing the aforementioned number of ECTS due to justified training needs on the part of the Degree Program Board. The deadline for the purchase of single courses is 20 September 2024 for courses delivered in the first semester and 17 February 2025 for courses delivered in the second semester. For students enrolling in courses that involve laboratory activities, it is a fundamental requirement to be in possession of the certificate relating to the completion of the Safety Course issued by the University of Parma.
