Learning objectives
The course aims to provide adequate knowledge:
- Of the theoretical assumptions of archival work and their evolution,
- of the main operational aspects of archival work and the production of archival media,
- of the critical use of the archive for research purposes, through paper and digital research tools.
Practical exercises and a visit to the State Archives of Parma are planned.

Nothing.
Course unit content
General archival science: principles and definitions. The archivist's job: describing to reconstruct and to provide access. The user's point of view: how to do archival research.

Teaching methods
The teaching consists of lectures. Practical exercises and a visit to the State Archives of Parma are planned.
Assessment methods and criteria
For attending students: ongoing written tests on the different modules and final oral interview.
For non-attending students: written test on the entire program.
Other information
Attendance is strongly recommended, given the relevant laboratory component.
To arrange an alternative program as a non-attendee, it is advisable to contact the lecturer well in advance.
