Learning objectives

The course provides communication skills training for students wishing to develop their interpersonal skills and build rapport with others in university and in the workplace. The training covers effective communication strategies to enhance understanding and verbal communication with others.

This business-orientated course is also helpful in increasing presentation design as well as personal branding.

Prerequisites

No prerequisite for this course.
It should be useful to all students interested in communication and with all levels of experience.

The course offers an introduction to
communication:
-Forms and methods of communication
-Communication styles
-Personal branding and online personal reputation
-Presentation Design
-Elevator Pitch
-Storytelling
-Visual Communication

Full programme

The aims of the course are:
-Recognised different styles of communication and how to improve understanding and build rapport with others.
-Reflected on different methods of communication and decided when each is most suitable.
-Appreciated the role of body language and voice tone in effective communication.
-Communicated their message in an effective and engaging way for the recipient (expecially during presentations).
-Reflected on their personal branding strategy online.

Teaching methods

Approximately one half of each class will be devoted to discussions about strategies of communication and models of public presentations, the other half to hands-on exercises in which students hone their speaking and writing skills.

Written exam

Other information

Time requirements for this course are likely to be high. In addition to the readings, students will be required to participate actively in frequent written and oral exercises.
