Course units and programme of study

The programme of study is the set of compulsory and elective course units that the student must take in order to graduate.
Submission of the programme of study for your year of enrolment is compulsory and is required, in particular, for registration for examinations and for completion of the teaching evaluation questionnaires.
All current students must submit their programme of study online via the Esse3 system. The programme of study may differ according to the academic year of enrolment ('cohort').

How the programme of study works

The list of course units in the programme of study represents the set of training activities that can be envisaged for each of the years of which the course of study consists and changes according to the year in which the student enrols. Free or restricted-choice' subjects are optional learning activities that students may include in their programme of study according to the choice criteria specified on this page; the remaining course units are compulsory for all students.
The programme of study must be submitted online by the student for each year using the ESSE3 system (see dedicated section).

Optional course units offered in the Food area in the a.y. 2022-2023

Enclosed the  file pdf with the list of optional course units offered in the Food Area of Food and Drug Department . By clicking on the name of the course unit in the pdf file, you can access the Syllabus of the course units itself, which provides information on:

learning objectives - prerequisites - teaching content - bibliography - teaching methods - methods for assessing learning

NB: students on degree courses: Food Science and Technology - Gastronomic Science - Food Science and Technology Second-cycle Degree - can freely choose from all the course units in the Food Area (unless otherwise specified for individual subjects)

Credits for free participation activities

The University recognizes ECTS credits for free participation activities to students of degree courses who request them. I.e. activities carried out in the sports, cultural and social fields that involve the student's involvement in the operational context in which to carry out the activities.

The Regulations provide that each degree course assigns 6 ECTS credits for these activities and two methods of carrying them out:
• Activities to be carried out on the basis of a project defined by the Department;
• Activities carried out independently by the student during his/her university career.

Soft Skills: transversal training activities

These are training activities aimed at providing the student with a first set of knowledge, skills and qualities that come into play when it is necessary to translate a competence into behavior, responding to a need of the organizational environment, as well as to implement and improve the development of so-called soft skills for greater integration into the world of work.

The course units related to transversal competences can be inserted by the student in his / her didactic path, both as curricular formative credits among the elective courses (TAF D), directly through the compilation of the online programme of study in the time windows established annually.

Filling out the programme of study online a.y. 2022-2023

The presentation of the programme will only concern the course units and teaching activities of one's own year.

The programme of study must be submitted online via the Esse3 system from 07/11/20222 to 15/12/2022.

- Students in the first and second year of the First-cycle degree courses and the first year of the Second-cycle degree courses will simply have to approve and confirm the compulsory course units for their year.
- Students in Year III of the First-cycle degree and Year II of the Second-cycle degree, in addition to confirming the compulsory course units of their year, must proceed to the selection of the free-choice ECTS credits and the type of intnership.

Any changes to the programmes submitted online can also be made via the ESSE3 system from 03/03/2023 to 08/04/2023.

It is emphasised that the submission of the programme of study online is compulsory and preparatory to subsequent career activities or acts (including: electronic student file, registration for exams, mark registration, student opinion survey).
Only programmes of study that comply with the teaching regulations can be submitted online and will be automatically approved.

Exceptions to online plan submission

The following categories of students must submit their programme of study in the traditional paper format during the time windows indicated above:

- students who wish to submit a programme of study that differs from the conditions proposed by the Esse3 system;

- students outside prescribed time for course completion who wish to change their programme of study.

N.B All requests relating to the modification of one's study plan must be submitted to the Course Council via the relevant Student Registry Office within the time windows indicated above ( segreteria.scienzealimenti@unipr.it); after approval by the Course Council, the individual programme of study will be uploaded by the Student Registry Office into the Esse3 system in order to allow it to be viewed and to allow examinations to be booked.

Annual meeting with 3rd year students and out-of-school students to compile programme of study

Dear third year SG students and students outside prescribed time for course completion

A meeting with 3rd year students and students outside prescribed time for course completion, was held on Thursday 19 October 2023 in Room R of Q02 from 1.30pm to 2.30pm to illustrate the methods and terms for compiling the programme of study and choosing optional courses and types of internships.

Attached are the slides presented during the meeting.

Completion activities of gastronome

This is the student's possibility of having previous activities recognised, but carried out during the period of attendance on the degree course (during the three years), which have a strong relevance to the figure of the gastronome.

We are talking about certified training courses or other possible activities in the field of food and wine that have provided for a commitment on the part of the student equal to (not equal to) that for the use and preparation of a university credit (not dining room or cooking activities, for example).

Attached is a presentation of these activities, with instructions on how to apply and record the relevant cfu.

Students have the possibility of having previous activities, done during the three years of the degree course, which are related to the role of the gastronome.

We are talking about certified training activities or other possible activities in the fields of wine and food that have required to the student a commitment similar (not equal) to that for the preparation and acquisition of one ECTS credit (not waiter or kitchen activities for example).

Please find attached the presentation of such activities, with instruction to require the registration of the relative ECTS credits.

Student Opinion Survey Questionnaire (OPIS)

The survey of students' opinions concerning teaching is implemented by means of the 'Student Opinion Survey Questionnaires (OPIS)' and is an indispensable element in enabling the improvement of teaching, quality and organisation of degree courses.
A 90-minute information video is available at https://youtu.be/TmqvjU6DQdY this video provides information of interest to all students.

The Questionnaire should be completed by the student at the end of the lecture cycle of each course unit.

For students who have not previously taken the assessment, the ESSE3 IT system requires mandatory completion of the questionnaires when registering for the examination.
