Learning objectives

The course's aim is to discuss Tocqueville's reflections about the problems of democratic societies and of its solutions.

Prerequisites

During the classes, a general knowledge of contemporary history and of political debate in 18th and 19th century will be taken for granted.

Course unit content

The course deals with Alexis de Tocqueville's political thought, and, particularly, the third book of Democracy in America.
