Integrated course unit module: BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES

Learning objectives

Students will acquire up-to-date knowledge about the basic concepts and methodologies of psychology. They also will be able to develop an in-depth preparation on the functioning of the main psychological processes fundamental for the understanding of human behavior.
Given the transversal and dynamic nature of psychological disciplines, the student will develop the ability to apply such knowledge in the field of healthcare professions and to keep them constantly updated thanks to a substantial exercise of their critical thinking.

Course unit content

The present course will address the following topics:
- Origin and methods of psychology
- Sensation and perception
- Attention
- Memory
- Learning
- Emotion and Motivation
- Representation of space, body and action

For each of the aforementioned functions, the main reference models, the most recent scientific evidence as well as the neurophysiological substrates will be described. Particular emphasis will be given to the implications of general psychology for healthcare professions.

Teaching methods

The course will be held through lectures to Students either in the classroom (“in presenza”) or in synchronous-streaming (“in telepresenza”) on the Teams platform. Therefore, the opportunity of Student/Teacher interaction will be preserved both face to face and remotely, by the simultaneous use of the Teams platform.

Lectures will be supported by slide presentations, which will be available to students on the Elly platform (https://elly2020.medicina.unipr.it/).

Assessment methods and criteria

The final written test will be composed by 15 multiple-choice questions (3 wrong alternative answers, 1 correct answer).
Final grade will be calculated attributing 1 point for each correct multiple-choice answer, 0 point for each wrong or missing answer.
The final test will take 30 minutes.

In case of the persistence of the health emergency, the exams will be conducted remotely, as follows: remote oral questions, through Teams platform (guide http://selma.unipr.it/). The oral examination will cover the entire course program.
