Integrated course unit module: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY 1

Learning objectives

MODULE 1 To encourage students to reflection about the major ethical issues related to the care and taking care of patients.
Analysis of issues and ethical issues pertaining to the profession of midwifery .
Analysis and discussion of clinical cases of ethical interest.
MODULE 2
The course aims to provide students with the basics to learn and
understand the essential elements of the methodology of scientific
research in the field of midwifery. At the end of the course the students
should be able to apply knowledge and understanding of the elementary
aspects of the bibliographic research methodology.

Course unit content

MODULE 1 Birth of Bioethics as a discipline and its statutes, ethical theories in Bioethics. Human being and the human person.
Ethical theories in bioethics: bioethics liberal - libertarian, utilitarian bioethics.
Bioethics principles, personalistic bioethics.
Learn about ethics: reproductive technologies, surrogacy, ectogenesis, prenatal diagnosis.
Bioethics and contraceptive methods, and interdettivi contragestativi. Cloning.
MODULE 2
The course begins with an introduction to scientific research, with
reference to the historical and ethical aspects, the reliability of sources,
primary and secondary sources. It will then proceed with the
methodology of bibliographical research in major databases. In the last
lectures the different research designs will be illustrated (literature
search, qualitative studies and quantitative studies).

MODULE 1 Definition, origin and status of bioethics. The new code of ethics of the midwife. Screening of short film.
Ethical theories in bioethics: bioethics liberal - libertarian , utilitarian bioethics Bioethics principles, personalistic bioethics. Bioethics at the beginning of human life. Bioethics at the end of human life.
MODULE 2 - Evidence Based Medicine; the ethics of research; the literature review; bibliographic research, methods and strategies; hints on qualitative and quantitative research

Assessment methods and criteria

During the course, the level of knowledge of individual students will be
evaluated on the basis of their contribution during the exercises. The final
examination consists of an oral exam on the topics covered in all the
modules of the Integrated Course. The collegiate evaluation will take into account the weighted average based on the CFU of the different modules
