Learning objectives
During the first lessons the student will learn the events and the main issues of medieval history and in particular:
- The political and social development of the European world since the fall of the Roman Empire to the discovery of America;
- The relationships between political and ecclesiastical institutions;
- The specificity of the Italian middle ages;
- The economic, cultural and technical growth of the West;
- The comparisons between western, byzantine and arabic civilizations.
In the second part of the course the student will address the following issues of the Byzantine Empire:
- The political ideology:
- The territorial changes;
- The growing gap between Byzantium and the Latin West
