Who has to take the test
The test is compulsory for first-year students. Persons who have transferred or transferred from another university (with validation of examinations) and persons who already hold a degree are not required to take the test.
Non-selective test
The guidance test (non-selective assessment test) is used to identify critical points in the language skills acquired during the school career. The test therefore has a purely orientation purpose, and makes it possible to verify, at the time of entry into the course, the possession of minimum requirements of functional and grammatical linguistic competence so that students can approach the university course with greater awareness and in a more functional manner.
When does it take place and what does the test involve
Two dates are normally scheduled for each academic year. The dates can be found on this page and are also published in the notices section of the Corso website.
For the a.a. 2022-2023 the test takes place on the following dates:
25 September 2023, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., classrooms Ferrari;
24 January 2024, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., classroom Ferrari - date reserved for those students who enrolled after 25 September 2023
The test is generally divided into two parts and includes exercises relating to:
- grammatical analysis;
- logical analysis;
- period analysis;
- elementary notions of metrics and rhetoric;
- comprehension of literary and/or argumentative
- text; elaboration of a short written text.
The test consists of a series of closed or open-ended questions, sentence completion questions with the introduction of missing elements, a questionnaire relating to the comprehension of a short literary text, and questions involving a short discursive answer. A test example is shown in the attached file.

Test results
Students who prove they meet the minimum requirements and pass the test can sit the Italian Literature exam (Prof. Carlo Varotti).
If the test reveals deficiencies, the student must compulsorily take one of the three IDEA Italian courses that the university provides. At the end of the course, having passed the final test, the student will receive a certificate enabling him to sit the Italian Literature exam.

Corsi propedeutici (Progetto I.D.E.A.)
Il progetto I.D.E.A. (Integrazione Didattica per Esercitazioni Assistite) mira a integrare le conoscenze di base necessarie per avvicinarsi a determinate discipline e per frequentare proficuamente i corrispondenti insegnamenti, nell'ottica di una più completa formazione umanistica. Le lezioni sono svolte da docenti di scuola superiore selezionati e formati da docenti universitari.
Per il Corso di Studio in Lettere sono attivi i seguenti insegnamenti propedeutici:
- Greco | Referente prof. Massimo Magnani;
- Italiano | Rerefente prof. Carlo Varotti;
- Latino | Referente prof. Simone Gibertini.
Per il corso propedeutico di Greco (A.A. 2023-2024) è previsto il modulo seguente:
- greco zero, rivolto alle persone che non hanno mai studiato la lingua greca o vogliono riprendere ex novo le nozioni di base | prof.ssa Sabrina Bonati.
Per il corso propedeutico di Italiano (A.A. 2023-2024) sono previsti tre moduli:
- italiano 1 (primo semestre), rivolto a studentesse e studenti che non hanno superato il test di orientamento di settembre | prof.ssa Cinzia Ruozzi;
- italiano 2 (secondo semestre), rivolto a studentesse e studenti che non hanno superato il test di orientamento di gennaio | prof.ssa Maria Giuseppina Bo;
- italiano scritto | prof. Michele Abbati.
Per il corso propedeutico di Latino (A.A. 2023-2024) sono previsti tre moduli:
- latino zero, rivolto alle persone che non hanno mai studiato la lingua latina o vogliono riprendere ex novo le nozioni di base | prof. Leonardo Ferrari;
- lettura domestica per l'insegnamento di Letteratura latina mod. B | prof.ssa Viviana Menoni;
- nozioni di metrica, grammatica, sintassi storica e preparazione allo scritto | prof. Corrado Gambini.
I dettagli organizzativi sui singoli corsi di Greco, Italiano e Latino (orari, modalità di iscrizione ecc.) vengono comunicati dai referenti all'inizio dell'anno accademico; gli orari sono indicati anche nell'Agenda Studenti.

Test TECO
The TECO (TEst on COmpetences) tests, dedicated to the assessment of students' learning, will also be administered.
The TECO test is a project of ANVUR (National Agency for the Evaluation of the University System and Research) in which the Humanities courses of several Italian universities have joined and which also involves courses of study of other types. It makes it possible to collect data useful for the self-assessment of the course of study and the improvement of the quality of the course catalogue.
