Learning objectives
Learning of the main causes of clinical and differential diagnosis of fever, including fever of obscure origin. Learning and classification of the main liver disease, classification, clinical and therapeutic guidelines. Learning of the main causes of anemia, clinical and therapeutic aspects. Approach to the patient with hemorrhagic manifestations: clinic and therapeutic guidelines. Learning of the clinical aspects, diagnosis and treatment of venous and arterial thrombosis with particular reference to pulmonary thromboembolism and the CID. Approach to the patient with lymphadenopathy: clinical features, differential diagnosis and classification of the main lymphoproliferative disorders. Approach to the patient with peptic ulcer: clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic. Learning the use of corticosteroids in clinical practice: main indications and contraindications
The course aims to provide information and support materials for a correct methodological approach that develops the necessary knowledge and understanding of the topics of Clinical Biochemistry, specific to a professional obstetrician can operate both on land and in a hospital setting, in so as to understand the complexity of the biological samples, the information that can be learned and possible sources of error.
Such knowledge and skills will be put to the test to be applied during work practice in a clinical-surgical structure in direct contact with the patient, where it is needed an appropriate communication skills as well as the application of highly specialized knowledge. Albeit succinctly, the course is structured to provide the means to integrate on their own knowledge and handle complex situations that will arise in the course of the occupation.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites required, but whereas the Clinical Biochemistry is an interdisciplinary subject, it is desirable that the student has in mind the fundamental concepts of Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, Chemistry and Biochemistry.
Course unit content
Fever: pathophysiology, the main proceedings, fevers of obscure origin. Diseases of the Liver: jaundice, acute and chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver failure. Anemia: Classification of anemia, the main clinical anemia (sideropenic, macrocitico-megaloblastic, haemolytic, processes and chronic refractory). Bleeding disorders: platelet deficiency, deficiency of plasma factors of coagulation, Approach to the patient with lymphadenopathy: clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic. Infectious mononucleosis-like paintings and mononucleosici: clinical and diagnostic aspects. Thrombosis and pulmonary embolism: clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic. Peptic ulcer: clinical picture, diagnosis and therapy.
The first part of the course deals with the study of biological samples to know the characteristics and possible alterations in relation to the preparation of the subject to the levy as well as the collection, processing and storage of the sample (pre-analytical variability). Will be recalled, in particular, the basic principles concerning the acceptance of a biological sample for clinical chemistry.
In the second part of the course will provide the foundation for understanding and treating the most common markers of organ function and injury, with particular reference to the management of pregnant women and the main related diseases: cytolysis indices, parameters of cardiac function, liver and kidney monitoring of diabetic patients and dyslipidemia; urine analysis;

Teaching methods
Lectures and evaluation by oral examination
Assessment methods and criteria
Oracle examination.
For the module of Clinical Biochemistry is expected to final oral examination focused on the topics of the program. The student will demonstrate an understanding of and be able to use the basic concepts of each topic, answering questions geared to test skills of a technical nature (criteria that allow you to get a reliable laboratory data), knowledge about levels of 'investigation and management of practical situations. In each of these situations will be determined the degree of mastery of the subject and on this criterion shall be given the score, which is useful for final vote
Other information
The material used for the preparation of educational activities (slides, text other than those of reference, different sources accessible over the network, etc.) is explained in the lectures and is available on request of the student.
