«Utrum inter omnes scientias metaphysica maxime ab homine appetatur appetitu naturali» (Francisco Suarez, Disputationes Metaphysicae, I, 6). Metaphysics in a Late Renaissance Scholastic handbook.
Francisco Suarez's (1548-1617) Disputationes Metaphysicae is one of the most widespread work of the Renaissance Aristotelianism and one of the more interesting and effective outcome of the philosophical and pedagogical programs of Post-Tridentine philosophy and theology. In particular some topics discussed in the first and the second Disputatio («De natura primae philosophiae» and «De ratione essentiali seu conceptu entis») will be the focus of the lectures.
