Learning objectives

The course aims to analyse the history of the italian opera from the XVII century to our day from the point of view of music and drama, and of social, economic and material aspects.

The course analyses the following aspects:
- Dramaturgy of the opera
- Economy and society: production and representation
- Locations: theatres and concert halls, open air venues, virtual venues
- Technology: instruments, set construction, reproducers and diffusers
- Communication: shows, word of mouth and printed word, reproduction, mass-media
- Protagonists: composers, interpretors, players, managers, government, communicators, audience
