Learning objectives

The goal of the course is to provide the student with some fundamental notions about the fascinating physics of black holes, with particular attention to symmetries spacetime and role played by black holes in connection to the fast-developing field of gravitational waves.

Prerequisites

The course of General Relativity and, if possible, a course containing the basic notions of of Quantum Field Theory.

Course unit content

During the course a selection of self-contained subjects about the fundamental properties of black holes will be discussed.

Full programme

1. Black Hole spectroscopy: Quasi normal modes, WKB and symmetries of the photon ring
2. Love number of Black Holes and its symemtries
3. Reissner–Nordström black hole
4. Penrose diagrams and gravitational collapse
5. Hawking radiation
6. Black Holes and Gravitational Waves.

Bibliography

A self-contained set of notes will be provided as well as some bibliography depending upon the subject.
