Integrated course unit module: CLASSICAL TRADITION AND PALEOGRAPHY

Learning objectives

The first part of the course aims to introduce students to the tools necessary for a solid understanding of the institutions of Classical Tradition History.

The second part, which is of a monographic nature, aims to deepen the historical, cultural, and literary dynamics that contribute to the tradition of the classical text and beyond.

- Knowledge and Understanding:
The teaching of Classical Tradition History will enable students to develop a critical understanding of the formal, substantive, and literary aspects of the history of the classical tradition. This knowledge will be acquired and supported through targeted teaching interventions, including lectures, seminars, and exercises.

- Applying Knowledge and Understanding:
The study of the historical and cultural context and the synoptic analysis of the most characteristic aspects of the history of the tradition will lead to an understanding of the developmental lines underlying the survival and tradition of the text. This knowledge will provide students with a significant expansion of their literary horizon, as well as the ability to better contextualize historical and literary aspects that, although ancient, are essential for a more complete understanding of the dynamics underlying the tradition of texts.

- Autonomy of Judgment:
Upon completion of the course, students, based on their analytical knowledge of both theoretical and linguistic aspects, as well as literary foundations, should have developed the ability to gather data and critically interpret texts. They should also be able to formulate independent and well-founded judgments about the texts and the socio-cultural context in which they are embedded.

- Communication Skills:
By the end of the course, students should have acquired the ability to effectively communicate literary and non-literary content and to develop coherent transversal historical-literary paths.

- Learning Skills:
The theoretical and disciplinary engagement should provide students with a certain methodological mastery and learning skills that will be useful for future professions related to teaching and communication.

The assisted teaching activities will be organized according to the different needs and levels of preparation of the students following the course.
