Learning objectives

1. Knowledge and understanding:
The course will introduce some of the main notions and problems of the analytic philosophy of language. This will allow the students to identify the logical space in which the debate is situated as well as the state of the contemporary debate on the topic.

2. Applying Knowledge and understanding:
Through the analysis of arguments proposed by the main philosophers of language in the Twentieth century the students will acquire the means necessary for recognizing, criticizing, and in their turn formulating philosophical arguments.

3-4. Making judgments, communication skills:
Students will be encouraged to participate actively in discussion in class and to evaluate the arguments proposed, in order to arrive at defending a specific position and formulate arguments in favor of it.

5. Learning skills:
The students will be trained to recognize philosophical arguments and come up with a reconstruction that explicits their logical steps. In this way, they will acquire the means that will allow them to approach other philosophical topics and to do philosophy autonomously.
