Learning objectives

TThe course aims :
To supply general notions of Pediatrics and Neonatology
1- To provide adequate theoretical and practical knowledge for the nursing care in a pediatric ward.
2 - To furnish adequate knowledge for a proper clinical approach to the main neonatal and pediatric pathologies. In particular, to acquire the ability to recognize neonatal and pediatric emergencies .

Conoscenza delle nozioni fondamentali di anatomia, fisiologia, fisiopatologia e farmacologia.
Knowledge of fundamentals of Anatomy, Physiology, Pathophysiology and Pharmacology.

Prerequisites

Physiology of pregnancy.

The newborn: definition and classification. Physical examination. Healthy newborn care. Neonatal Screenings. Breastfeeding. Supplements and probiotics.
Clinical signs and symptoms of a newborn pathological inspection general exam. Intrauterine growth retardation and SGA newborn. Diabetic mother's baby. Adaptation to extrauterine life. Jaundice and profilaxis. Hypothermia. Sepsis. Congenital malformations. Perinatal infections. Genetic disorders

Lectures with interactive presentation of clinical cases.

Assessment methods and criteria

The student's knowledge, their understanding and the ability to apply will be assessed by providing pre and post tests, respectively at the beginning and at the end of the course.
