Learning objectives
At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to:
- analyze and understand the relationship between Architecture and City
in particular in the experience of the Italian and European city (1st Dublin
descriptor);
- apply the skills acquired in the context of the architecture and city
project with reference to the contents (2nd Dublin descriptor).
- Collecting and interpreting data relevant to good critical judgement (3rd Dublin Descriptor)
- the acquisition of skills necessary for the communication of the project (4th Dublin Descriptor)
- develop the necessary skills to undertake subsequent studies with a good degree of autonomy (5th Dublin Descriptor).

Course unit content
The course will focus in particular on the relationship between
architecture, pubblic space and the city, where the settlement device experiments the interscalar concatenation of the architectural project in the definition of role, form and figure of the urban part and the volumetric and spatial components that characterize it. The city's historical palimpsest and narrative within which the project is inserted as a conscious variant in a critical relationship with the phenomenology of
contemporary transformation. Geometries and physiology of the city of architecture. Narrative sequence and mechanisms of formal and functional articulation of the urban project. Urban identity. The project site is assumed as a complementary urban part to other urban parts in the definition of a significant and systemic role with the
structure of the city and the territory. The scale of the intervention is
confronted with the conditions of the context and the theme addressed,
its criteria of habitability, also in the relationship with the village and the
dialectic between architecture and infrastructure.
Among the objectives of the course there are the acquisition of the ability
to elaborate manual work through the sketch technique and critical didacticisation (notes technique), photographic practice of reconnaissance, knowledge and ordering of cartographic materials and design representation, rudiments of use of CAD, rudiments of use of three-dimensional representation, use of books and sources in general; realization of maquettes of spatial and plastic analysis, principles of construction technique.

Teaching methods
Classroom lectures
Will be given by the lecturer, tutor and teaching associates. Lectures by external guests are also planned aimed at better framing the objectives of the Workshop and for in-depth discussions on specific topics to be defined during the course of the Course. Please refer to the Workshop Calendar.
Tutorials
Lectures will be followed by classroom work sessions, so each student should have drawing tools with him/her at all times. The classroom exercises will be sessions of work and verification aimed at delivering papers on specific aspects covered in the course. Partial evaluations of the exercises will contribute to the final exam grade along with the main Lab project.
Assessment methods and criteria
Access to the exam is subject to obtaining a certificate of attendance, which will be granted in relation to the student's compulsory attendance at educational activities. To enable the scheduling of the roll call, students will have to register for the examination list. Grading at the examination will depend on the quality of the exercises and discussion of the topics covered in the lectures with references to the bibliography. In addition to drawing and representational techniques, special emphasis will be placed on the student's demonstrated ability to use appropriate and correct disciplinary terminology when presenting his or her work. The examination will be preceded by a Seminar in which all those enrolled in the Workshop are obliged to participate. At the conclusion of the seminar, the student who has completed the required papers may take the exam. The examination will focus on the main project carried out in the two semesters of the Lab. There, each candidate will be required to demonstrate his or her preparation by illustrating and discussing the project and the topics covered in the Lab. The examination will be conducted by displaying the graphic material related to the boards of the design exercise. The examination committee will evaluate the papers and the presentation of the boards to assign the student a grade. During the course of the Lab, guidance will be given on how to deliver the main project.
