Junior architect - section B, sector A

Roles

  • Designs and carries out simple civil works, with the use of standardised methodologies; contributes and collaborates in the design, direction, supervision, measurement, accounting and liquidation of construction works that are not simple;
  • Contributes and collaborates in the knowledge and project phases for the conservation of listed historic buildings;
  • Contributes and collaborates in any testing operations;
  • Contributes and collaborates in projects of general town planning instruments and implementation plans of any nature and entity.

Competences

  • Ability to set up design processes through the application of knowledge of architectural and urban composition;
  • Ability to carry out, by identifying appropriate techniques and tools, specific context analyses, through the application of knowledge related to the survey and analysis of existing architecture, as well as to investigations for the city, landscape and area;
  • Ability to critically analyse technical and functional alternatives for the solution of specific design problems at different scales, in particular through the application of knowledge of architectural technology, technical physics and in the structural field;
  • Ability to effectively communicate analyses and design proposals to different interlocutors, also developed through active participation in design workshops.

Employment opportunities
Graduates of the Degree Course in Architecture, Regeneration and Sustainability will be able to work as technicians in the field of architecture in specific areas of local or national public administrations, in particular in offices in charge of the design of construction works and the planning of urban interventions, in bodies and consortia for the protection of the area and the government of cities or larger areas, as well as in institutions aimed at the study and protection of historical architecture, such as the Superintendencies and the local authorities. They will also be able to find employment opportunities in private companies operating in the field of architectural works and in the professional offices of engineers, architects and town planners, thanks also to the skills developed in Building Information Modelling, as well as in construction companies, commercial companies for the production and sale of building products, with particular expertise in ecological and sustainable products.
Graduates, after passing the State Examination, can independently carry out the professional activity envisaged for the corresponding level of studies (junior architect).


Junior Planner - Section B

Roles

  • Constructs and manages information systems for the analysis and management of cities and the local area;
  • Performs analyses, monitoring and local and environmental evaluations;
  • Manages the evaluation procedures of local planning acts and relative complex programmes;
  • Contributes to and collaborates in the design, direction, supervision, measurement, accounting and liquidation of construction projects which are not simple;
  • Contributes to and collaborates on any land, landscape, environmental and urban-planning projects, including implementation plans of any nature and entity, with a particular focus on the compulsory aspects of eco-sustainability and impacts on the environment.

Competences

  • Ability to carry out investigations and analyses of urban, local and environmental structures, including through consultation and participation processes;
  • Ability to draft, monitor and evaluate public works, programmes and plans related to the government and sustainable development of the local area and to the regeneration of the anthropic landscape;
  • Ability to represent, communicate and manage with appropriate tools (thematic cartography, GIS, webGIS, PP-GIS) urban or strategic plans, urban projects, regeneration programmes, local development programmes, urban and local policies.

Employment opportunities

Communication skills

Graduates must:

  • be able to apply knowledge and comprehension skills in such a way as to demonstrate a professional approach to their work; also possess adequate skills to devise and support arguments of an interdisciplinary nature, as well as to solve problems in the field of architecture;
  • be able to communicate information, ideas and solutions by means of the most modern computer systems for documenting, processing and simulating results, adapting languages and tools to different interlocutors, both experts and non-experts;
  • be able to carry out project activities within a process of interpersonal cooperation.

The acquisition of communication skills will be stimulated by asking students to make specific presentations, including using multimedia tools, in several lectures. There will be a particular focus on the development of communication skills in all workshop activities and in particular in the activities of the Final Synthesis Workshop, in which the various arguments in support of the project activities carried out will be publicly presented. The acquisition of the skills described above is assessed at different levels within the training activities, primarily during the examinations, which mainly consist of oral examinations and written tests, as well as in the activities as part of working groups set up within integrated courses and workshops. These skills are further refined in the preparation of the final examination paper, in particular with regard to graphic communication skills.

Students must also be able to effectively use one European Union language, in addition to Italian, in written and oral form; the learning outcomes achieved will be verified through a specific assessment test with mother-tongue teachers.
