Integrated course unit module: Surgical medical sciences

Learning objectives

The aim of the course is to enable the student to know and understand the complexity of an operating sector, the importance of the behavior of the operators, surgical techniques, instrumentation and anesthesiological techniques, also in order to allow the student the ability to use the knowledge and understanding acquired to prevent risks to patients and operators, to ensure proper care to the gynecologist surgeon and anesthesiologist during interventions and provide adequate assistance to the operatives and operations, as well as collaborate in risk management.

Course unit content

The Operator Block: authorization and accreditation; structural, plant, technological, organizational requirements. Law 626 and Dlgs 81/08 application in health facilities; The microclimate in the operating room. Tissue hemosis and diersis systems: nods of electrosurgery and ultrasound surgery, hemostatic care: operating bed and patient positioning. Endoscopic Equipment: Monitor,Camera Control Unit , Head (Optical System), Light Source, Light Cable, Co2 Inufflator, Insufflation Tube, Morcellator, Image Storage. Diagnostic hysteroscopy, Bettocchi, resettoscopic.
Anesthesia: historical nods, main purposes of anesthesia, components and types of anesthesia. General, loco– regional anesthesia; choice of the type of anesthesia; anesthesiological risk assessment;
Surgical path: Periopertario, pre-intra-postoperative; medical record, intestinal preparation, preoperative shower, antibiotic prophylaxis, tricotomy, drug therapy; The Surgical Safety Check List (SSCL); postoperative monitoring.
Caesarean section: elective caesarean section, urgent, emerging; Lucas's code/color classification; main indications to caesarean section; surgical technique and anesthesia.
Hysterectomy: surgical times
Postpartum hemorrhage: definition, epidemiology, etiology, risk factors and their recognition; Epp management: communication, resuscitation and monitoring, cause-finding, treatment; estimation blood loss; obstetric shock index; pharmacological means, physical means, B-Lynch, embolization.
Clinical risks: definition; risk, danger, almost event, event, accident, error, sentinel event; patient safety, risk management, incident reporting.
