Learning objectives
Attending students will be able to understand the topics, the specialist language and the terminology belonging to the discipline (1)
Consequently the students will face a key topic of medieval history: the reform of the church (XI-XII century) linking sources to historical knowledge (2).
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of medieval history.
Course unit content
The first part of the course will be focused on the main issues of medieval history and in particular on:
- The political geography of the Early Middle Ages;
- The basic features of byzantine and islamic civilisations;
- The relationships between political and ecclesiastical institutions;
- The growth of the West;
- The particularism and the political coordination;
- The decline of the Middle Ages.
The second part of the course will be focused on a Key topic of Medieval History: the Reform of the Church (X-XII C.).
