Integrated course unit module: PREVENTIVE MEDICINE AND HEALTH EDUCATION

Learning objectives

The course is isertthe reserve in the Course of Preventive Medicine and Health Education. The course aims to enable the student to understand the essential elements of etiology, pathogenesis, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of main pathological situations connected with female genital infection and perineal dysfunctions, in order to allow the student the ability to use the acquired knowledge and understanding in the find problems of patien relating to the status of person suffering from sexually-transmitted infections or perineal dysfunctions, to prepare an adequate care plan with autonomy of judgement in the ' perform the actions necessary for the prevention and treatment and evaluate the results

Knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology

Course unit content

The first part of the course is the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases and proper execution of swabs of the female genital area; Prevention of cervical carcinoma, early detection through screening tests; guidelines for the control of the spread of HIV.
The second part of the course covers the pelvic floor muscles, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of perineal dysfunctions including l incontinence and urinary retention; Postpartum perineal care and prevention of perineal laceration during delivery

Full programme

Prevention of sexually transmitted diseases: health education
Microbiological tests for diagnosis of infection of the genital tract (Vulvar, vaginal, cervical swabs, endouretrali, rectal) Pap test, HPV levy ,colposcopy,
Guidelines on the control of the spread of HIV. Pelvic floor. Pelvic floor dysfunction. Clinical evaluation of pelvic floor, voiding diary. Pelvic floor reeducation: physical therapy, electrical stimulation, biofeedback, bladder retraing, vaginal cones, perineal massage. The perineum during pregnancy, childbirth, puerperium. The perineum during menopause. Role of the midwife in the prevention and rehabilitation perineal dysfunctions. The ' self-catheterization. m.

The investigation of the achievement of the objectives of the course consists of an oral examination. With questions regarding the course contents will be ascertained if the student has reached the goal of knowledge and understanding of the content. With questions regarding prevention strategies and preparation of a care plan will be established if the student has reached the goal of applying the knowledge acquired
