Learning objectives
GL mod. A: the student of Greek Literature will acquire a good knowledge of the historical development of the Greek Literature; also, they will begin to learn about this matter.
RL: The course is intended to give students competence to a critic insight of romance
medieval literature, above all in its connections with classical literature.
Prerequisites
GL mod. A: there will be a preparatory course ("Greco zero"), addressed to those who have not previously dealt with the study of the Greek language (IDEA project).

Greek Literature (= GL) "mod. A"GL mod. A: Aristophanes’ Women at the Thesmophoria: text and interpretation.
Romance Literatures (= RL):
After a brief Introduction about Ovid in Old French Literature of the
XII century, the course's aim is to study the Old French tale of Pyramus and Thisbe ("Piramus et Tisbé") and its relationships with Ovid’s "Metamorphoses", through passages which will be read, translated and analyzed in class.

Bibliography
GL mod. A: For the text and the translation of Aristophanes’ Women at the Thesmophoria, reference editions will be recommended at the beginning of the course. The same is for the institutional part of the examination, with the history of Greek literature, two works at choice and an essay at choice.

Teaching methods
GL mod. A: The teaching method in use is appropriate to the specific needs of the subject which requires the communication of the main course contents through classes; discussion with the students about textual and exegetical problems; tutorial programs for the students.
RL: Academic teaching.
Students will be requested to collaborate during oral translations, according to their
number.
Assessment methods and criteria
GL mod. A: students will be assessed by an oral examination based on the readings and other material used in the course and that will be administered at the end of the course. The assessment aims to test: 1) proper knowledge and critical understanding of the main themes of the history of the Greek literature; 2) oral proficiency; correct use of language; ability to give proper answers to the questions. Students will have to achieve the 2 assessment criteria and score a minimum of 60 percent or better to get a pass grade.
RL: Oral exam, which includes questions about the lessons and the books to be studied
autonomously. The final test is passed if sufficiency is reached in both modules; the final evaluation is determined by the average of the votes reported.
