The course aims to provide students with the knowledge and the basic concepts of sociology and social sciences developing a part devoted to the history of sociological thought, and a theoretical part, linked to the study of society.

Course unit content
The course aims to provide the theoretical and conceptual basis for addressing the study of sociology and to the analysis of collective phenomena own of complex societies. During the course two different approaches to sociological issues will be used. In a first phase, the main
theories will be presented, with references to the classics authors of sociology and the most recent reflections. The second stage will be taken into consideration the fundamental categories of sociological modernity; social action; the values, norms and social institutions; identity and differences; socialization; the gender and the life course; groups and organizations; education and instruction; inequality and social stratification; social mobility; the family; the religion; deviance and crime; production and consumption; politics, the State, the movements .

NOT ATTEND
The exam will be written with two open questions related to the part of history of sociological thought and two open questions related to the part of sociology. The term paper (which will be worth for the examination) must be sent by mail to the teacher at least two weeks before the exam.
