Learning objectives

Educational goals
The course develops a journey through the history of cinema, from its origins to the contemporaneity. The course aims to provide students with the tools necessary to acquire the ability to know and analyze the audiovisual text.

Course unit content

The course is divided into two sections:
section A: the general history of cinema following the topics:
- Silent cinema
- The cinematographic genres
- The sound period in Europe and America
- Italian neorealism
- The author's cinema
- The European "new waves"
- Postmodern cinema and contemporary cinema
section B: monographic journey on Joel and Ethan Coen. The study of this authors will give the opportunity to work in particular on film genres through the history of cinema.
