The course is intended to give students competence to a critic insight of romance medieval literature, above all in its connections with classical literature.

After a brief Introduction about the 'matière antique' in Old french Literature of the XII century, the course's aim is to study, through selected , translated and commented texts, the roman (based on Statius' epic poem) which makes the Theban material familiar in old french Literature: the Toman de Thèbes
