The course has two parts.
MODULO A (6 CFU), First part of the second semester. Introduction to general aspects of the ancient history and especially of the Roman history. the lessos will deal with the following topics: sources of ancient history, methods and instruments for the use of data, geographical environmente of the ancien world, the ancient city., The origins of Rome and the archaic insititutions; the census, the ager publicus populi Ropmani, centuriatio,, colonization, municipia after the Social War, the sociologica meaning of status and ordo, patricians, plebeians, clients; the Roman historiography during the Republic.
MODULO B (6 CFU), Second part of the second semester. Introduction to the Roman empire. Augustus, the making and the ideology of the Principate. The relationship of different powers: emperos, senate, people, army, provinces. The spreading of the Roman citizenship up to the consititutio antoniniana l'estensione della cittadinanza fino alla constitutio Antoniniana; civic insitution in the East and West. third century crisis and later empire; the Roman historiography during the empire.
