Course unit partition: PRINCIPLES OF ROMAN LAW (FORM A)

Learning objectives

The course aims to introduce the students to the essential principles of the law. The terminological accuracy is a key component of the law, therefore, the student will be required to attain the necessary language skills. To these effects, although not essential, the knowledge of Latin could be of help.

Prerequisites

Institutions of Roman law is a prerequisite for all other exams, except for those belonging to the scientific areas IUS/19 (History of Italian Law), IUS/20 (Philosophy of Law) and SECSP01 (Economics).

Course unit content

The course covers an introduction to Roman law that aims to provide a historical and systematic reconstruction of the main institutions that represent the foundation of our legal system.

Bibliography

At the beginning of the course the students will be provided with a book (of approximately 400 pages) that will be sufficient to achieve a good preparation .

Teaching methods

The lectures will be accompanied by written and oral exercises, to be held on a monthly basis, at a time to be agreed from time to time.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral exam with written test for admission. During the examination, the student will be invited to discuss the topics treated in the book.
