Integrated course unit module: PRINCIPLES OF ONCOLOGY

Learning objectives

The course is aimed to make student confident with:
- the recognition of Mood and Anxiety disorders in pregnant or puerperal women;
- the prevention of risks associated with these disorders, particularly the prevention of the risk of suicide;
- psychological support for pregnant an puerperal women with emotional distress;
- reassurance about treatment (psychological or pharmacological);
- referral pregnant or puerperal women with severe emotional distress to psychologist o psychiatrist.

Course unit content

The classes will present the clinical features, course and treatment of Mood and Anxiety Disorders in pregnancy and postpartum, and particularly the method for recognize them, the risks associated with the lack of recognition or treatment for the mother or the baby or the effects of the administration of pharmacological treatment in the more severe forms.

Assessment methods and criteria

In progress evaluation isn't scheduled.
The final examination evaluates the student's knowledge, acquired during the study, about the ability:
- to recognize mood and anxiety disorders;
- to make a differential diagnosis;
- to plan an adequate program of care;
- to refer the patient to specialistic evaluation and treatment.
The final examination consists in a multiple choice test with 40 questions, concerning the program of the course. The time available is 45 min. The exam has a positive result if the student gives the correct answers to at least 24 questions. The final result depends on the number of the correct answers above the cut-off.
