Learning objectives
Applied knowledge and comprehension skills
Students will be able to apply the knowledge and comprehension skills necessary to recognise and contextualise Boccaccio's work in the context of early prose.
Autonomy of judgement:
the students will develop the ability to collect and interpret data useful to determine comparisons and autonomous analyses of poetic texts
Communication skills:
Thanks to the skills acquired and to the analysis and comparison of different critical-interpretative proposals, students will be able to organise information, ideas, problems and solutions necessary to tackle and communicate a sufficiently complete and autonomous analysis
Ability to learn:
thanks to the acquired notions that provide the basis for the formal analysis of texts, students will develop the learning skills necessary to pursue literary studies with autonomy.
Prerequisites
A good knowledge of the Italian language and of the italian grammar is required. Students who do not have sufficient basic notions are suggested to attend the course IDEA of Italian language and literature.
Course unit content
The course (6 CFU, 30h) is dedicated to the reading of Giovanni Boccaccio's Decameron. The first lessons will be devoted to a general overview of the author and the text. Some other lessons will be devoted to the reading and analysis of sample novellas.

-Francesco Bausi, Leggere il Decameron, Bologna, Il Mulino, 2017;
-Boccaccio, a cura di M. Fiorilla e Irene Iocca, Roma, Carocci, 2021 (chapters to be studied will be indicated in class).

Teaching methods
Introductory lectures will alternate with some reading and analysis exercise in which students will be encouraged to participate actively.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final examination consists of an oral exam in which the following will be assessed
- the student's knowledge of the texts examined in class or at home; - the knowledge of the critical bibliography; - the student's logical-argumentative skills.
A student who does not show knowledge of the main historical and linguistic notions will not be considered sufficient. On the other hand, the student who is able to handle the concepts and terms of the discipline with propriety will be considered sufficient (18-21), fair-good (22-26) the student who shows a greater capacity for critical elaboration; good-very good (27-30 cum laude) the student who has significantly deepened his knowledge, demonstrating the capacity for autonomous investigation.
