Learning objectives

The course aims to provide the bases, skills amd theorical aspects for studying ythe main modifications related to ageing and to delineate the physiopathological bases of the main geriatric syndromes.
Interpretation and implementation of the tools for functional evaluation in aged people.

Principles of geriatric rehabilitation

Full programme

Teaching course will analyze various domains of aging process:
Aspects of demography and epidemiology:
• Demography of aging
• Epidemiology of the main diseases of aging
• Clinical and social implications of aging
General consequences of aging and Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA)
• Comparison between Old and geriatric patients
• Definition and goals of CGA
• CGA methodology and its domains.
• Integrated network of health services for the old population
Geraitric syndromes
• Immobilization and decubitus ulcers
• Malnutrition and sarcopenia
• Bladder incontinence
• Falls and syncope
• Delirium
Main rehabilitation processes for:
• Dementia
• Ischemic heart disease
• Heart failure
• Stroke
• Parkinson's disease
• Osteoporosis and bone fractures
Principles of geriatric rehabilitation
• neurological, cardiovascular and orthopedic reahabilitatio
