Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to encourage students to reflect upon the general issues raised by legal experience.
Prerequisites
The Philosophy of Law exam is preparatory for other exams belonging to the IUS/20 scientific subject area.
Course unit content
The course sets out to deal in a systematic manner with the central themes of legal philosophy, following the areas set out in the textbook used, specifically: law and language, law and values, law and justice, legitimacy, validity, legal rules and subjective law.

The recommended textbook for basic preparation is S. CASTIGNONE, Introduzione alla filosofia del diritto, Laterza, Bari, in any recent edition. <br />
As personal, in-depth study, students are also required to tackle three chapters of their choice from the textbook by G. PALOMBELLA, Filosofia del diritto, CEDAM, Padua, also in any recent edition. <br />
Teaching methods
Each lecture will be followed by a discussion of the topics raised. <br />

In order to have a true command of the subject of law it is advisable for students to have already taken (or be currently preparing for) the exams in Roman Law Institutions and Private Law Institutions. <br />
