The main objective of the stage is to acquire experience in laboratory work. The work is then utilised for preparation of the final essay.
Prerequisites
Access to the stage is reserved to students who have achieved 120 credits, including all first year exams.

Teaching methods
The studente spends a period of about three months in a laboratory, either in University or in a company, to acquire the professional skills of a biotechnologist. In the meantime the student interacts with researchers and with the tutor to learn how to analyse results from the experiments. In the same period the student learns how to prepare the final essay, by reporting the method employed and the results obtained.
Assessment methods and criteria
During the period in the laboratory, the student is subjected to constant evaluation by the tutor. The learning skills, the ability in applying knowledge, the communication skills and the judgement autonomy are considered.
At the end, the tutor fills in a form expressing the evaluation on the skills acquired by the student, and a mark on base 30; this is communicated to the President of the Degree for registration.
