Career prospects

The first-year course in Biotechnology aims to prepare professionals with the necessary skills to produce goods and services through the analysis and use of biological systems both for application purposes and for the implementation of new methodologies.

Fields

The biotechnologist can work in a working environment such as laboratories of universities, research institutions or companies in the various fields of medical, pharmaceutical, environmental, agricultural and food biotechnology, following the directives of a supervisor, and carrying out experimental procedures in a professional manner. The biotechnologist can also work in the academic field by completing his or her training with a first-cycle or second-cycle degree.

Competences

The Biotechnologist undergoing first-level training has the ability to identify and solve problems related to the complexity of living organisms, finding the components that can be treated through fixed fields of the fixed, chemical, biological-molecular type, with particular emphasis on fields of application and the implementation of new methodologies.
At the same time, it has the skills to consider the economic, management, legal and environmental implications of applying these technologies. He/she has the ability to communicate with an expert audience in Italian and English. He/she has the ability to collaborate in teams, to organise work, to gather information and to continually update himself7herself.
The degree provides skills that lead to subsequent openings towards second-cycle degrees in the Biomedical, Industrial, Agricultural, Environmental, Pharmaceutical and Veterinary fields.

Opportunities

Graduates of the class can pursue professional activities in public and private research institutions and in companies, analytical laboratories, hospitals, in various biotechnological, industrial, agricultural, environmental, pharmaceutical and health care fields, as well as in the field of scientific communication. Graduates of the class can enter the professions with professional registration as a junior biologist.
Graduates of the class may continue their studies in master's degrees in biotechnology, biology and other classes.
