Learning objectives

The course aims to introduce students to principal themes on the sociology of deviance, with particular reference to certain areas of intervention by the welfare officer.

Course unit content

 The course examines the interpretative paradigms of crime and deviance, the lines of evolution of the discipline and recent orientations; the social work practices in the criminal justice system. <br />
The lectures, therefore, will address the theme of social control, illustrating the examples of rewards, rehabilitation and amends, with particular attention to the relationship between social services and the criminal justice system as to juveniles. Then, from a sociological-juridical point of view, the juvenile penal process and criminal mediation practices will be presented. <br />
