Integrated course unit module: ANATOMY,EMBRIOLOGY AND HISTOLOGY

Learning objectives

The course gives basic knowledge about the embryo-foetal development and about the morphology and structural organization of cells, tissues and organs of the animals of main zootechnical interest. The aim is to give a good grounding and specific technical-pratical knowledge useful to make comparisons and controls, to help the resolution of diagnostic problems and to study with profit matters of physiology, patholgy, reproduction, welfare and breeding conditions of animals, zootechny and inspection.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of biology

Course unit content

Basic concepts of Anatomy, terminology and main body parts. First steps of embryo development, basic notions of organogenesis and foetal membranes. Citology and Histology: Epithelial tissue, Connective tissue, Muscular tissue, Nervous tissue. Locomotor apparatus. Basic notions on the Nervous System. Gross and Microscopic anatomy of endocrine glands, digestive apparatus, urogenital apparatus (male and female), cardiovascular and lynphovascular systems, respiratory apparatus, common integument. Practical activity of histology and microscopic anatomy. Cadaveric dissections.
Teaching methods

The didactic rules of the degree in "Zootechnical Sciences and Technology of Animal Productions" states that the 48 hours of didactic activity, correspondent to a total of 6 CFU (3 CFU in the first semester and 3 CFU in the second), which are of competence of the course of "Anatomy, Embriology and Histology", are shared in 24 hours of frontal lessons and 24 hours of practical activity, all with compulsory attendance.
The frontal lessons deal with matters of citology, embryology and histology, in the first semester (12 hours), and of anatomy, in the second semester (12 hours) (N.B. the course title was put in a wrong way: the precise words should be "Anatomy of the Domestic Animals" rather than "Istology of the Domestic Animals").
The practical activity, in the first semester (12 hours), deals matters of osteo-arthro-miology; moreover, optical microscopic observations of tissues are performed. Cadaveric dissections are done in the second semester (12 hours).

The exam consists of an oral examination
